* You are registering for the Spring 2019 Walton Junior Lacrosse Season. Please have your U.S. Lacrosse number and expiration date at hand. You can look up your number by visiting www.uslacrosse.org. Your membership must be valid through June 1st, 2019 to accommodate the length of the Spring season.
ALSO, due to limited space, we are currently registering players in the Walton District only. If you are out of district, you may email firstname.lastname@example.org and have your child wait listed to see if space is available after registration ends.
While we permit 1st graders to register, we ask that parents give some thought as to whether their 1st grader is "ready," both physically and mentally for lacrosse. The Bantam Division includes 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders, so some 1st graders could be competing against children as many as three years older than they are. The coaches do their best to minimize the physical contact in accordance with the rules for that age group, but, especially on the boys side, contact happens in lacrosse, and our experience is that the physical size and coordination differences between a young 1st grader and an older 3rd grader are as large as the differences between 5th and 8th graders (who play in separate divisions with an entire division (6th and 7th) between them). What we want to avoid is discouragement-where a child "gives up" on what might be the game they were best suited to play just because they started a year too soon. Our Bantam coaches are terrific and do an awesome job with the little ones. We all just want to see the kids love the game as much as we do.
Having said all that, we leave it to the parents to decide. If your 1st grader is physically and mentally relatively mature, and/or has the disposition to push through barriers and persevere through the early lacrosse learning curve, then by all means sign them up and they should have an awesome time.
